The webinar provided an overview of the journey that the health care team at Southlake Regional Health Centre tookl to implement their Elder Abuse Policy and Procedures. The Presenters discussed the importance of an interprofessional team (i.e. GEM Nurse, Physician, Risk Management, Social Work) approach to determine response and safety planning for
in-patients and discharged patients from Emergency Dept. The speakers also reviewed methods of elder abuse screening/assessment and documentation as well as procedures to follow based on patient’s capacity to make decision.

Women’s College Research Institute (WCRI) and the Ontario Network of Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Treatment Centres in collaboration with Elder Abuse Prevention Ontario have advanced a multi-phase, multi-method program of research to develop, implement, and evaluate a Multidisciplinary Intersectoral Hospital-based Elder Abuse Intervention
This webinar provided an interactive and informative discussion to share some of the key finding from this Elder Abuse Intervention Project. Learn about the different research methods that have been utilized in the development phases of the Project and the findings to date including a model of potential participating professionals important to a comprehensive hospital-based elder abuse intervention with formalized links to the community, allied health and legal sectors and the results of a pilot of a new Elder Abuse Nurse Examiner curriculum.
